Why is there oil in my antifreeze reservoir?

I went to turn on my car and the light came on on in my 1994 vw jetta telling me to check my water. I have driven my car earlier in the day to run errands. I just had my radiator replaced 1 week ago. There is no other signs of anything else wrong with it. There is no water in my oil. No smoke coming out of anywhere. I just dont understand why it has oil. And it has alot of oil in it.Why is there oil in my antifreeze reservoir?
you mentioned that the rad was changed 1week ago, and I suspect that the oil you see is what is put in the rad while on the shelf so it doesnt corrode

if you suspect motor oil , keep an eye on the oil level to see if it drops , and see if there is going to be more oil in the reservoir after you clean it outWhy is there oil in my antifreeze reservoir?
I can't provide a definative answer. My best guess is that when the radiator was replaced, you cooling system was not properly charged, resulting in a temperature thermostat unable to function properly. This would cause an engine temp spike, loss of coolant. A temp spike can easily cause the cylinder head to warp or crack, allowing the entry of oil into the coolant. Seek an unrelated second opinion from another mechanic. Good Luck.

blown head gasket for sure, i had a jetta before, easy to replace the gasket, so if someone charges you out the *** tell them that's crazy, should be able to replace it for about 200 at a shop or your self for about 65
If the cars running fine and there is no other indication of a blown head gasket its probably outside contamination. You may want to get a flush somtime in the near future.
its probably the head gasket or intake gasket is leaking.
your headgasket is probably shagged im afraid, if your feeling brave take your rocker cover off and see what looms inside!
