What is the future of aviation when all the oil runs out?

Will we cease to fly from one place or another? Or is there an alternative type of fuel to enable air travel in the future? What is the future of aviation when all the oil runs out?
The giant Japanese Nissazda Corporation have devised weightless magmatic batteries which store vast amounts of power in a very small space, trial flights have already taken place in factory scaled prototypes. What is the future of aviation when all the oil runs out?
water would be my best quess they have cars that run on it already.
we all start using hang gliders
By that time i'm sure that most people will not travel, they would cyber it.

Or maybe the whole Trek thing? You know get in a transporter and get beamed to Anzio in a blink.

Really by the time we run out of oil we would have destroyed ourselfs back to the stone age thanks to the Democrats.
You're assuming in your question that we will run out of oil. This is unlikely to happen.

See http://economics.about.com/cs/macroecono鈥?/a> for just one of the web sites that will tell you why this is.
Sweetie above, is that really you in your avitar? hot.....hot......hot!
We will always find ways to travel, such as solar energy, etc.

There is always a way.
Not just aviation, but modern life as we know it
We wont run out of oil.

There will be alternate fuels long before that day.

There is not shortage of oil, they keep finding more.

Bio fuels are part of a solution but not the key to everything, it takes much more energy to produce a gallon of bio fuel than a gallon of petroleum fuel so the net gain is much less than you might imagine.

Add the millions of acres to farm production, fuel to grow the crops, fertilizers, equipment, etc, and you are creating a monster that needs to be looked at verrry carefully before inviting it in.
With Iran, North Korea and Russia now grumbling again, do you really think the human race will last that long?!
When oil runs out we will all fly with bio-fuel powered aircraft. The current main problem with bio-fuels is that at altitude the fuel freezes and cannot be used. However there is substantial investment in the development of air craft fuels.
Essentially any fuel that will ignite with air can be used with current jet engine designs with suprising little modification.

The Russians messed about with Hydrogen fueled jets. The trouble with its a gas at all the possible atmospheric temperatures it would operate at so you either have to freeze it or put it under extreme compression.

The cooloing systems were huge and took up half the internal space of the airliner. Not good for revenue. Any tank that could withstand the huge pressures needed for compressing it into a liquid would be too heavy for the airliner to get off the runway. Gas provides a fraction of the power of liquid so volume for volume you will go a tenth as far on the same tank. Not good.

Also there is a problem manufacturing the required amounts of hydrogen.

Hydrogen is the most common element in the Universe, trouble is, its bloody difficult to get any here on Earth. The only easy way of doing it is to inject water vapour into fossil fuel exhaust gases (kind of defeats the object of creating a green fuel if you need to burn fossil fuels to create it). The O2 in the water combines with the carbon particles and creates CO2 and leaves just Hydrogen.

We could in theory turn seawater into fuel, but it wouldnt be practical and way too expensive.

If you could get a liquid fuel then it would be really easy to modify existing designs.

So as of yet, there is no viable alternative. So that means you either have to look into new propulsion designs or new fuel types.

I would expect a bit of both in the future.
By that time, we will be able to control magnetism and gravity.
Frozen methane,

propane,

natural gas,

hydrogen
None of us or even our grandchildren will ever live long enough to see oil run out. It`s just a scam the oil companies run to sell you 39-cent-a-gallon gasoline for 3 bucks a gallon. (Next summer it`ll be $4 a gallon,. the summer after that it`ll be $5, etc.) They jack up prices 50-cents higher that they want to sell it for for a few weeks so you panic, then drop it 50 cents and you`re happy to pay the ridiculous amount. USA gas is artificially low-priced. We should be paying 8 bucks a gallon like Europe. I personally wish it would hit 10-15 bucks a gallon to get all the SUVs full of cell-phone talking idiots weaving across the lanes and causing traffic congestion off the roads.
There will be renewable energy from agriculture, but not enough for aviation and to feed 50% of the worlds population so perhaps Nuclear, there was a Nuclear version ofthe B36 Peacemaker designed in the late 1940s early 50s I am not sure if it flew but the technology is sound especially with planes the size of the new double deck Airbus.
Think the rich will be flying about in Bio Fuel aeroplanes in a few years time. Flight will revert back to the era of the 1930's where flying was for the very rich.
Do you remember those old films with some guy trying to fly what looked like a giant egg beater?

You're worried about flying when the oil runs out? Hell, you won't be able to even drive to the airport. But hey. I envision something like a bus you used to see on the Flintstones where everybody picks the thing up and starts walking. The Gossamer Albatross was pedal powered. An airplane with three hundred ten speed pedals all going at once and who knows. We'd be working on the oil shortage and the obesity problem at the same time.
Fuel for an internal combustion and/or jet engine can be made from vegetable oil. And as it only releases carbon dioxide that was absorbed while the plant was alive (and not locked away in fossil fuels for millions of years), its much more environmentally friendly.
you will be dead before that happens so dont worry about...the air force is testing bio diesel as we speak
human excrement
big giant paper planes witha big throwing arm
hydrogen filled airships since we are running out of helium too.
Bio diesel
HEMP OIL!
Who cares, we will be dead by then!
