How should you dispose of used fat and cooking oil?

We have George Foreman and the lean grilling device to answer for the worlds biuggest quandry now. What do we do with the sludgy white mess left behind by a mean grilling session of fat burgers and sausages. It sickens me to throw it away, i'm aware it'll clog up my plumbing and i've heard it's not fit for compost.

What should I do?How should you dispose of used fat and cooking oil?
Let it get cool. Then mix it up with bird seed, peanuts etc. Then spoon into a plastic dish. Put in fridge or freezer to get hard. Turn out. Put on bird table or hedge for birds. Dont put on ground - might attract rats. How should you dispose of used fat and cooking oil?
If you're leaving fat out for the birds, please make sure it doesn't contain SALT, i.e. from bacon or sausages. To quote from the RSPB website: ';garden birds cannot process salt and will die if they are given too much.'; Report Abuse

I also have a george foreman, and what I tend to do is let the grease cool down in th tray, it then turns white and I throw it in the bin. ( i know of a person who uses it for their baking)

For any fat that may be left on the grill itself just use a wet kitchen towel.

Whatever you do please dont throw in down the sink unless you like paying for expensive plumbers!!
We have a large bag of wild bird food and use it with the left over fat to make ';cakes'; for the birds in the garden - invaluable at this time of year as there is not much about for them to eat. Fill a foil tray (we use the ones that food is packaged in rather than just throw them out) with bird food and then pour on the melted fat. When it goes solid you can put it in the garden for the birds to eat. It saves us buying so many fatballs to hang out for the birds.
clean the grill while it is still warm wet kitchen towel, old fat and oil pour into a old container and dispose of it. hope this helps you.
Pour it down the sink, give many people a job. Or pour it into a container and take to the council rubbish dump, where most have a section for such items
Contact your local council they will collect it for you, otherwise save it all and sell it to a company that collects it to make it into fuel for diesel cars
I have a solid fuel fire and I burn it.
Mix it with plenty of birdfood and put it in small (8 oz) plastic chinese food containers, throw it in the freezer overnight, and then hang the container in a tree. It's winter; the birds can use the food. :-)
Make suet for the birds or squirrels. Just mix any or all of the following items into the grease:

Corn meal

Flour

Peanuts or Peanut Butter

Raisins

Bird Seed

The squirrel and birds will love it. The fat is especially good for them in cold weather. You can spread it right on the trunk of a tree or put it in a feeder. This is a much better thing to do with the grease than throwing it away! The critters will love you for it.
